Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated a three-day Combined Commanders' Conference at the Indian Army's Eastern Command Headquarters, Vijay Durg (formerly Fort William) in Kolkata. The high-level event was also attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, marking a significant gathering of the country's top military and political leadership to deliberate on national security matters.
The conference holds particular significance as it is the first such high-level event to be held after 'Operation Sindoor.' According to defence officials, 'Operation Sindoor' was a targeted and punitive military action carried out to dismantle cross-border terror infrastructure. The successful execution of this operation demonstrated the precision, professionalism, and well-planned strategy of India's tri-services.
The summit saw the presence of a host of key defence and security officials. Among those who attended were National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the respective chiefs of the Army, Air Force, and Navy. The collective presence of these leaders underscores the importance of the conference in shaping India's future defence strategy.
During his address, Prime Minister Modi lauded the commendable role played by the Indian Armed Forces in 'Operation Sindoor.' He praised their exemplary performance and reiterated their significant contribution to nation-building. The Prime Minister’s words of appreciation served to boost the morale of the armed forces and acknowledged their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the country's sovereignty.
A key highlight of the event was the unveiling of the "Indian Armed Forces Vision 2047" document by the Prime Minister. This forward-looking document lays out a comprehensive roadmap for creating a future-ready Indian armed forces. It is expected to guide the military's modernisation, capacity building, and strategic planning over the next two decades, preparing it for emerging threats and challenges.
The conference provides a crucial platform for top military commanders to engage in high-level strategic discussions and present their assessments to the political leadership. The PM's participation and the unveiling of the new vision document underscore the government's strong commitment to fortifying India's defence capabilities and ensuring the security of the nation.
